Shelly as a local equipment-control layer for hydroponics.

MakersHydro® can use supported Shelly devices to control selected grow equipment locally, without requiring Home Assistant, external MQTT brokers or cloud dependency for core operation.

Local network

The integration is intended for a local MakersHydro-controlled network where equipment can be discovered, named and mapped to grow functions.

Native equipment mapping

A light, pump or fan can be treated as part of the grow-control system instead of a separate smart-home accessory.

Cloud optional

Remote access can be useful, but the design goal is that core grow behaviour does not depend on an external cloud service.

In MakersHydro®, equipment control is part of the same local decision chain as pH/EC measurement, reservoir state, dosing safety and environmental logic.

  • MakersHydro remains the grow controller; Shelly devices act as suitable equipment switching endpoints where applicable.

Why Shelly integration matters

In hydroponics, equipment control is not only about switching devices on and off. It is about separating critical low-voltage grow logic from mains-powered loads near water, humidity, pumps and grow lights.

Shelly gives MakersHydro a practical equipment-control layer that can be deployed without asking users to build their own mains relay wiring. Critical measurement, dosing and safety decisions still stay local inside the MakersHydro control architecture.
